Please join the Walerga Music Department on Thursday evening at 6pm in the Cafeteria as they present their Spring Concert featuring the junior high choir, junior high band, high school choir and high school band. It will be a night of delightful music and a chance for you to cheer on your peers and show your encouragement for the work they have been doing all year. CCAA Welcomes Guest Artist Stephanie Powell.  She will be instructing Dance Elective Students in Stretch and Strengthening and Jazz Technique.  We are very excited to have her!


"Professor Stephanie Marie Powell is a California native and a tenured Professor of Dance at Long Beach City College. Throughout her academic teaching career she has taught courses in Dance Appreciation, Choreography, Composition, Classical Ballet, Contemporary Ballet, Pointe, Modern Dance, Jazz, Turns, Zumba, Dance Conditioning, Stretch and Relaxation, Dance History, Hip Hop Dance History, Performance Workshop, Yoga and Pilates. Professor Powell is a certified instructor of the New York City Ballet Workout, Zumba, Qiginition and Body Arts and Science International Pilates with a Dance Specialization. Ms. Powell is the principal interpreteur of the choreographic works for the legendary choreographer Donald McKayle, and stages his work around the world.

Ms. Powell received her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in Sociology and Education and a Master of Fine Arts in Dance with distinction from the University of California at Irvine as a Chancellor's Fellow, where she was honored with the Celebration of Teaching Award and the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the Claire Trevor School of the Arts. She danced professionally and toured internationally with major dance companies such as the Oakland Ballet Company, the San Francisco Opera, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Donald Byrd/The Group, Las Vegas Contemporary Dance Theater and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Ms. Powell was a performer in the Los Angeles Pantages Theater production of the Broadway show "Lion King" where she danced featured principal roles as well as performed as a principal singer and actress. (Sarangi and Shenzi) Additionally, she serves as an adjudicator for dance competitions and has modeled internationally for FabLife, Redken and Trevor Sorbie of the UK. She has appeared on television in the Grammy's, FabLife, on the Jay Leno Show and has danced commercially for artists such as Janet Jackson, and Beyonce Knowles.

Professor Powell continues to dance as a performing artist today and has taught and choreographed her own work in contemporary dance and ballet throughout the US, Australia, Europe and Asia.”

CCAA Elementary Students, Elementary Dance Company, and 7-12 Dance Company will be performing in the "Enchanted Forest Dance Showcase"January 30th & 31st at 6:00 PM on the Arutas campus.  

A reminder to dancers: call time is 5:30! (all students arrive to cafeteria and find their classes – class names will be posted on cafeteria walls)

Dance Company auditions are being held at the Walerga and Arutas Campuses. Dance Company is an after school program where students learn dance routines they perform at CCAA and at local community events. The program engages students in teamwork, improves their dance technique, and gives them the

opportunity to share their love for dance.

  • Dates & Times: Audition will take approximately 2 hours.
    • 7-12 Audition: Tuesday, September 5, 2017, 3:30 PM @ Walerga.
    • Elementary Audition: 3rd - 6th Grades, Thursday, September 7, 2017, 4:30 PM @ Arutas.
  • Recommended Dancewear: Leotard, tights, for fitting exercise-friendly clothing (including stretch pants, form fitting t-shirts, shorts).
  • Recommended Footwear: Socks, ballet shoes, or jazz shoes. *If you have questions regarding the dancewear, please contact Anne Fischer at*
  • Audition Requirements: Please arrive to the audition on time.  Students will be required to complete an audition form and receive a number (they will pin it onto their outfits). Students will learn combinations they will rehearse and perform.  Audition results will be posted the following week.
